FREE WORKSHOP Week 9: Lack of Leadership

Hey Guys,

How did everyone go with last week’s discussions on Defect Ridden Handovers. Did you share your experiences, if not please feel free do so as i would love to hear from you.

I can’t believe were nearing the end of the FREE 10 Week Workshop: The 10 Key Causes, why Foremen are failing in projects, but like all good things they must come to an end.

Before i go into this weeks topic, i wanted to let you know we are currently putting together a questionnaire for week 10, in getting your feedback specifically around how we at Learn2Exceed went. So don’t hold back in helping us provide better services and education to you guys and girls in becoming better Productive Foremen.

Now, back to this weeks topic, we are talking about the Lack of Leadership, and why this is being overlooked for foremen.

Over the years, the focus has been specifically around teaching project managers and upper management (or as i call it – Off Site Management ™) in construction, about Leadership. With a top-down approach, which has assisted the construction industry to a point, but has left Foremen (On Site Management™), who are the critical link between Off Site Management™ (upper management/project managers) and contractors/suppliers/clients etc., and their importance forgotten.

Also I began to discover, especially within failed projects that lots of foremen are struggling with leadership or lack of being actually educated on it. This has caused many issues within the relationships between foremen and contractors.

This reminds me of how i was asked to coach my sons’ soccer team after the coach refused to coach in the upcoming season. The team had lost 14 of the 15 games, in the last season and were reluctant to go on. But with focus on leadership and drive, i was able to turn the same team around to winning 13, drawing 1,losing 1 and reaching the semi-finals.

In the end by taking Accountability (week 1) and control of the situation I was able to take the lead and resulted with a complete turnaround of the results. This can be the same for projects, if done correctly and would benefit all involved.

Interestingly I still have parents coming to me years later, stating that it was a turning point for their kids, the way they played and excitement of the game:)

So as you can see, leadership is a critical element in helping you become a Productive Foremen, in ensuring your projects are successful, each and every time.

Now, share you comments and experiences, below and let us know if you have had similar situations happen to you, of how important leadership is.

Till next time,

Nelio
