FREE WORKSHOP Week 8: Defect Ridden Handovers

Hi everyone,

How did everyone go, with last week with the Lack of Teamwork. Did you share your experiences before and after the changes, once you started changing the way you did things.

This week we are talking about Defect Ridden Handovers, and why they are occurring more often than not.

Till now, we have been talking about the action or lack off, but this week its about the results of the things we do or don’t do, with Defect Ridden Handovers as one of them. Its also important to remember that defects just doesn’t happen but are actually are a result of the lack of checking against what’s being done, in regular sequences, just like quality control.

An example of this was the earlier example that i gave back in Week 6: Lack of Periodic Check Points, in which through the lack of regular checks the project lead to failure. Not only finishing late but also being defect ridden and completed as a patch up, leaving a dissatisfied, ever lasting impression on the client.

And as you can imagine, the project finished with a Defect Ridden Handover, which as mentioned earlier could of been easily avoided if a true checking process was used on managing the tasks as they were completed from the beginning and appropriate action through rectification to correct them.

Unfortunately, in today’s world the situations are continuing to become more competitive with tighter budgets and lower profit margins with the focus remaining on doing more projects, minimising steps or time needed and swiftly completing them, as quickly as possible. But it doesn’t have to be that way, the time to actual check and action, regular defect inspections along the duration of the construction is very little compared to the problems, delays, defects and issues you will have throughout the project, including handing over a Defect Ridden Project.

And when  you begin to check and rectify regularly in taking back control of your projects, you will realise how far less work and more enjoyable and stress free the project will become.

So guys, try it out and share your experiences with how your projects ended up, both before and after the changes.

And remember this is all about sharing our experiences and knowledge in helping each other become far more Productive Foremen.

Till next week,

Nelio
