FREE WORKSHOP Week 5: Negative/Reactive Attitudes and their Implications

Hi all,

Its another week and we are about to reach halfway, with this week’s workshop being based on Negative/Reactive Attitudes and their Implications.

Now, I’m sure everyone knows that this is not good. BUT do you know that Negative/Reactive Attitude can easily influence the whole project and environment, including contractors, suppliers, clients and stakeholders, all together. And the thing is, you may not even know your actually doing it.

This reminds me of a foremen who was really organised and on the ball, but at face value, we didn’t understand why he was still having difficulties with the contractors or meeting the deadlines. And so I brought them together in a meeting to discuss the situation, in getting to the bottom of it.

Soon after the meeting begun, it became apparent what was causing all the tension and reluctancy from the contractor. The foremen was negative and reactive in attitude through the way he was demanding and disregardful to the contractors as he dictated his thoughts on the matter and who was the cause.

I then proceeded to question  the contractors in telling their side of events about the main issues that were preventing and delaying the project. To which they then went into detail regarding the negative and reactive attitude that the foremen had towards them and their workers.

As a result they kept pushing the foremen’s work to the backend, whenever they had nothing else for his workers to do. Since no one wanted to come on site to deal with the attitudes of the foremen.

As you can see whilst successful projects have a lot to do with successful programming, leadership and management of contractors and tasks, without a positive and proactive attitude it can make a significant difference to the project.

That’s why a positive and proactive attitude towards all relevant contractors, suppliers, management, client and relevant stakeholders, in uniting them together is important. Since in the end, you are all on the same team, in providing a service to the client and the respect for each other, will ensure success of project.

Remember, training of the mind, through a continual positive and proactive attitude has just as much importance, as the physical aspect, which in turn, strengthens your ability as Productive Foremen in turning failing projects, into success.

So please comment, share your experiences as we work to become a Productive Foremen.

Next week, we will be talking about Lack of Periodic Check Points.

Till next week,

Nelio
